Tropical Storm Erika cause itinerary changes for at least 2 cruise lines.


The fifth named storm of the Hurricane season, Tropical Storm Erika is currently moving west through the Eastern Caribbean and is expected to reach the Bahamas as early as Sunday morning. She currently has a maximum sustained winds of 45 mph and is expected to upgrade to a Category 1 hurricane before she reaches the Florida coast. A tropical storm warning has been issued for the Virgin Islands as well as Puerto Rico.

So far two cruise lines, Carnival and Norwegian, have announced itinerary changes with Royal Caribbean making changes to their departure times. Carnival has announced that their ship Carnival Conquest will now spend overnight in San Juan and move onto Grand Turk and Nassau Bahamas replacing St. Maarten and St. Kitts. UPDATE: Carnival has announced Carnival Ecstasy time In Nassau will now be shortened. She will be in Nassau from 10 A to 5 Pm Saturday different from her original stay of 10 am to 7 Am Sunday Morning. UPDATE 8/28 8 PM EST: “Carnival Breeze departing from PortMiami will now call on Grand Cayman on Monday, Mahogany Bay, Roatan on Wednesday, Costa Maya on Thursday and Cozumel on Friday. Carnival Fascination departing from Jacksonville will not be able to call on Half Moon Cay.  The ship will have an extended call in Nassau on Tuesday, September 1 from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM and then proceed to Freeport on Wednesday, September 2 from 7:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Carnival Valor departing from Port Canaveral will not be able to call on Nassau. The ship will have an extended call in St. Thomas on Tuesday from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM with the remainder of her itinerary as scheduled.” No changes are made to Carnival Glory.

Norwegian cruise line has announced their newest ship Norwegian Getaway will not be able to complete her Eastern Caribbean route instead she will call in Cozumel, Mexico Monday from 8 Am to 5 Pm, call in Ocho Rios Wednesday from * Am to 5 Pm and Nassau, Bahamas Friday from 8 Am to 5 Pm. Norwegian Gem’s itinerary for her sailing departing on August 29 will call on the Royal Naval Dockyard, Bermuda arriving on Monday at 8 am and remaining until Wednesday at 5 p.m. Norwegian Sky itinerary departing August 28th will now call in Nassau on Saturday from 8 am to 4 pm and in Key west on Sunday from 12 pm to 7 pm.

Royal Caribbean has announced Independence of the Seas will now have an earlier departure time Sunday August 30th departing at 3 Pm EST. Boarding will be from 11 am to 2 pm. Royal Caribbean has stated to stay tuned for possible changes to Oasis of the Seas, Adventure of the Seas, Freedom of the Seas Enchantment of the Sea and Majesty of the Seas. UPDATE: Friday at 4:30 PM EST RCCL announced Freedom of the Seas will depart Port Canaveral Earlier at 3:30 PM EST. Boarding time will be from 11 PM to 2 PM.
