Empress of the Seas to home port out of Tampa to Cuba

09 December 2016 – Today Royal Caribbean International announced that it will base its 48,000 GT ship Empress of the Seas out of Tampa during the Summer season of 2017. Empress of the Seas will sail 4 and 5 night cruises to Havana, Cuba with stops in Key West, Florida or Costa Maya, Mexico.

The ship will first sail to Cuba on April 19th from Miami before repositioning to Tampa. Royal Caribbean currently operates 2 other ships from Tampa, Rhapsody of the Seas and Brilliance of the Seas during the winter seasons only.

Royal Caribbean brought the 26 year old ship back to its fleet in May 2016 from its sister line specifically for Cuban Sailings. The ship went through a Multi-million dollar refurbishment before starting short cruises from Miami while awaiting Cuban approval.
